Overview

The Homes for Ukraine scheme was launched by the government on 14 March 2022. This scheme allows people living in the UK to sponsor a named Ukrainian national or family to come to live in the UK with them, providing they have suitable accommodation to offer. For more information about the scheme and how to apply, go to Apply for a visa under the Homes for Ukraine scheme.

What the council's role is

Under this scheme, local councils have been given certain responsibilities, including:

  • carrying out checks on sponsors and sponsors' homes
  • making arrangements for payments to those arriving in UK under the scheme
  • making arrangements for the 'thank you' payment to sponsors
  • helping to make sure our guests settle in to life in Essex

In this section you will find more information on how we are meeting these responsibilities.
