Social isolation

Social isolation is different to feeling lonely. A lack of social interaction can have a negative affect on your mental and physical health. It could increase your risks of:

  • heart disease
  • a weakened immune system
  • depression
  • cognitive decline, including dementia

The Essex Wellbeing Service (EWS) works to reduce social isolation by connecting people with a:

  • wellbeing coach
  • befriending co-ordinator
  • community agent
  • local volunteering programme

If you feel socially isolated, contact EWS to find the right support for you.
